STATEMENT RELATING TO THE CONCLUSION OF THE COMPETITION APPEALS COMMITTEE

The Competition Appeals Committee has reached the conclusion that the interim decision issued by the Competition Authority as regards the collection of fees for the peripheral coach parking spaces at Keflavík Airport should not be reversed. According to the interim decision, issued on 17 July 2018, Isavia was ordered to cease collecting the fee.

The Competition Authority has, however, in the later stages of the matter, declared that Isavia is under obligation to continue with the fee collection with amended prices. The Appeals Committee has agreed with this ruling in its conclusion. It is clear, therefore, that in the case of the Competition Authority regarding the fee collection from coach companies that undertake the transfer of passengers to and from the airport, there is no doubt as whether a fee shall be collected, only what the amount should be and what criteria is used as the basis for such fee.

“This conclusion of the Competition Appeals Committee is currently under examination by Isavia, and based on such examination, a decision will be made on the next steps”, says Hlynur Sigurðsson, Director of Commercial Operations at Isavia. “It is the goal of the company to ensure a level competitive playing field for all the companies that offer transport to and from Keflavík Airport. This will continue to be our guiding light in the work that is now ahead of us. We will, therefore, accept this ruling handed down by the Appeals Committee and work toward reaching an agreement while the Competition Authority completes its processing of the fee collection case.”
