The summer season is off to a good start, with a total of 556,047 guests passing through the airport in April, which is a 2% increase from the same time last year.

A total of 21 airlines flew to 65 destinations in April. The most popular destinations were London, Copenhagen, New York, Paris, and Amsterdam.

The busiest day in the month of April was on April 1st when 25,020 guests made their way through the airport.

According to the Icelandic Tourist Board, Icelanders' departures were about 45,000 in April which is -19.8% fewer than April last year. Around 180,000 Icelanders have travelled abroad from January to April, marking an 1.9% increase from the same period last year.

The departures of foreign guests were 137,000 in April, which is -3.5% less than in April last year. Since the turn of the year, around 593 thousand foreign travellers departed from Iceland which is a 5.7% increase between years. Most departures in April, were US citizens (24% of the total departures), followed by British citizens (12%), Polish citizens (6%), French citizens (5%) and German citizens (5%)

The number of guests will increase in the coming months, but KEF Airport's passenger forecast estimates that during the summer months, April to October, the number of guests will increase by 391 thousand, which is a 7.2% year-on-year increase.
